Obviously, lumber and bricks are essential for the building supply industry. But so is technology, which helps operations run smoothly and efficiently while simplifying processes. We interviewed Spruce super-user Brady Wilk, supply chain manager for Integrity Building Products, to discuss how technology has become necessary for the building supply industry.
Integrity is a leading supplier of building materials and manufactured components for the home building industry in Western Canada. It has been in business for over 15 years. They embarked on their Spruce journey in 2017 when Brady joined the team. The decision to adopt Spruce was strategic, driven by the need to replace an outdated system. Brady recalls, “Spruce was a breath of fresh air—user-friendly, modern, and adaptable.”
Since then, Integrity has experienced remarkable growth. From a modest team of 40 serving a single store, they now boast 250 employees across two stores and six locations. Brady emphasizes, “Spruce has been our steadfast companion throughout this expansion. It seamlessly scaled alongside us, supporting our evolving needs.”
With Spruce, Integrity has streamlined its workflows, enhanced its team collaboration, and improved customer satisfaction.
Integrity deals extensively with special orders—a complex process that demands meticulous tracking. Brady explains, “Spruce excels at mirroring our physical operations digitally. With document links, we trace each special-order item from placement to fulfillment. It allows us to follow the information of the transaction and the physical flow within the system.”
As the team grew, so did the need for clear role definitions. Spruce facilitated the segregation of duties. “We seamlessly onboarded new team members, and Spruce ensured that responsibilities were well-defined. It’s a critical factor in our sustained growth.”
In the pre-Spruce era, Integrity relied on paper records for deliveries, which often led to sales invoicing mishaps. Brady recalls, “Customers were left confused—deliveries and payments were out of sync.” Enter Spruce—with real-time tracking capabilities, Integrity bid farewell to uncertainty. Customers now see precise delivery dates, eliminating guesswork. Brady emphasizes, “No more second guessing or approximations. Our customers have the correct information to pay at the correct time.”
Beyond customer satisfaction, Spruce transformed internal communication. Brady explains, “We no longer question whether an activity occurred. Spruce provides transparency.” Team members seamlessly collaborate within the system, ensuring sales orders flow smoothly. Items ship punctually, and customers are billed correctly. Brady adds, “It builds trust in the system and each other.”
Spruce is a great solution for the retail sector, as it integrates with Orgill, so you can easily manage your inventory and orders. “We’re excited about the future of our business as we aim to reach more customers and improve our efficiency. We believe in sticking with our established supply chains—it helped us get through COVID-19 and will remain a key factor for our success in the future. And we’re confident that Spruce will continue to be an important part of our growth.”
