Meet Jessica Myers, July's OSC of the Month, and learn about her journey, productivity hacks, and effective lead management strategies that set her apart in the industry.
Jessica is a new home specialist with Caviness & Cates Communities in Fayetteville, N.C. She was a NAHB Nationals Silver Award Winner - OSC Team of the Year for 2024. Jessica shares her productivity hack in this interview, how the industry changed, and her go-to resources.
Jessica Myers (JM): I never knew that my career path would lead me to become a new home specialist. I have a business management degree and have worked previously in banking and as an administrator for the city of Seattle. However, I’ve also had a passion for real estate and helping others. When I heard about the opportunity at Caviness & Cates, I knew I had to jump on it, and I’m so glad I did. I’ve been working here since June 2021.
JM: On average, I am managing anywhere from 100-150 leads a month. It can change slightly based on the market and season, but overall, our incoming lead count stays consistent, which is nice! It helps with follow-ups, processes, and how to structure your time.
JM: I came into online sales at the back end of COVID. Things were still busy but had already started to slow down. The biggest change I have seen over the past few years is the appointment-to-sale turnaround time. The sense of urgency with buyers has slowed, so making sure you stand out and truly educate your buyers and stay in front of them has been very important.
JM: I would say the most challenging aspect of my job is not being able to say yes to every lead that comes in. I would love to give every home buyer exactly what they are looking for in their home or be able to line up construction timelines with their move-in timeframes, but I can’t always do that. I usually can overcome this, though, by showing them not what they are missing but all the amazing things a Caviness & Cates home offers. From the craftsmanship, the communication, and all the way down to our in-house warranty.
JM: Lasso, CallRail, and my company phone are, hands down, the most important tools I have (besides my notebook, which I carry everywhere with me). I am always going 100 mph when I am working, and having everything at the touch of my fingertips to track updates, calls, notes, communication from onsite and management, and information for leads is so important to me.
JM: I’m fortunate that I have many resources to help support me and answer any questions I have (and trust me, I have a lot!). My boss, Beth, is always my first call whenever I need something and never misses a beat. Jen and Jessie at DYC are also amazing and such a wealth of information! It’s hard to fail when you have these three on your side.
JM: Make lists or carry a planner. I’m a visual learner, and I need to see what I need to do every day and check it off. Every month, I print off a calendar and keep it taped to my desk with my prospecting plan for each week and then also create a daily list of any extra to-dos that I need to focus on. It helps me stay organized and focused on the tasks I need to do at work and things I need to get done at home!
JM: My biggest employment success so far is winning Silver with my coworker, Maggie, for “OSC Team of the Year” at NAHB.
JM: My favorite things to do outside of work are spending time with my husband and our two boys, traveling, and going to the beach. I also love spending time with friends, reading, dancing, and hiking with my dog, Max. Anytime I can get outside, I’m happy!
JM: I just finished reading “The Women” by Kristin Hannah. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book of hers I didn’t like. I also just started “Iron Flame” by Rebecca Yarros. Regarding shows, I just finished “Bridgerton,” and I’m eagerly awaiting the next season of “Outlander” in November!
