This month we feature Anna Grubb, ECI’s Global Vice President of Sales for the Field Service Division. We sat down with Anna to learn more about her experience within the managed office technology industry overseeing Managed IT (MSP) and Managed Print (MPS).
Read what Anna Grubb had to say:
ECI: How have you seen the managed office technology industry evolve throughout your career?
Anna Grubb: I started my career in 2002 with a toner cartridge remanufacturer ‘Multi-Laser’ in my hometown Gananoque, Ontario, Canada. Multi-Laser is the founding company of PrintFleet Inc—one of ECI’s Legacy software solutions. I never imagined that 20 plus years later, I would oversee the sales of an entire field service division, that includes office technology and managed print solutions.
ECI: Are you part of any professional associations? Which ones and why do you find them valuable?
AG: Not currently, but I am open to one if the right opportunity is presented.
ECI: How do you stay up to date on industry changes?
AG: I’m very much an in-the-trenches leader. I love talking to customers and hearing their needs while on the go— being involved as long as I have has created great relationships with many people worldwide. These relationships encourage people to share the news whenever something exciting is happening with their business. I used to prefer to stay behind the curtain, but as of 2023, I will be out at industry events to meet people face to face.
ECI: The past few years flipped nearly every industry upside down. How has managed office technology changed?
AG: While Managed IT (MSP) and Managed Print (MPS) have been closely aligned for years, in the last few years, we are seeing more companies willing to branch out and offer both solutions to customers. We must also consider the evolving home office and how to manage, service, and care for home-based devices. This has increased the need for managed services and hot swaps.
ECI: Where do you see managed office technology going in the future?
AG: As the next generation enters the workforce, I expect more pressure to go digital and migrate to the cloud. As this evolves, we will continue to balance the changes stemming from the new hybrid office while maintaining best practices. This need will drive the demand for different devices and print security. Office equipment dealers who are focused on growth will continue to expand their Managed IT offerings or form alliances to deliver more solutions to their customers in a united fashion. Consolidation of manufacturers and dealers will also continue in the quest for market share expansion.
ECI: What can managed office technology businesses do to stay competitive?
AG: Do not be afraid to embrace change. If you are still doing the same things, you did 20 years ago, someone else will come in and steal business away from you. Look for ways to take your program into the future with plug integrations and automation.
ECI: If you could give one piece of advice to someone new to your division, what would it be?
AG: Be prepared to continue learning every day. As with any industry, it is imperative to keep up to date with the solutions we offer and where they are stored. I still remember when I thought the cloud was something in the sky, and no one knew what MPS was—boy has the world changed a lot since I started in the industry.
